Not bad for a Bathgate lad
It’s gone largely unnoticed in the UK, but over the pond, British racing driver Dario Franchitti has won the US IndyCar Series (despite some incredible crashes along the way). The UK loves it’s motorsport - judge the huge press coverage Lewis Hamilton is given - so it might seem odd that Franchitti’s achievements have not been given a higher profile.
Many would argue it’s simply because the IndyCar Series is given little TV coverage in the UK, but I think there is an element of snobbery in there too. Many will view the IndyCar Series as inferior to F1, especially after Franchitti’s unsuccessful try-out with the Jaguar F1 team in 2000. This is open to debate, but whatever the reason, well done Dario - not bad for a Bathgate lad!
