Those Mitchell and Webb ads

Watching the Mitchell and Webb Apple ads, a few things struck me. As funny as the ads are, both characters are idiots. David Mitchell (the PC) is the obvious dufus, but you also slowly realise that Robert Webb (the Mac) is a twat too. So what does this say about Macs - that we’re all lame but not as much as the guy who bought a PC?

That’s another thing - the word PC. As far as I know, PC is an acronym for personal computer, which technically can mean anything from a Windows or Linux box to even a Mac itself. I know that 99% of the world translate PC to mean a computer running Windows, but I thought the advertising authorities might have pulled them up on this.

To be honest, as much as I’m loving working on mac’s at the moment, their marketing repulses me. The smarmy approach does not sit well with me and it’s all just asking for a PR disaster.

Microsoft is getting bashed repeatedly in the press, but what you have to remember is that businesses have depended on their software for years and unlike the creation OSX, MS simply cannot start fresh and ignore all their previous users.

I still want a mac though :(
