Let the games begin!

A solid month of football begins today when Germany take on Costa Rica in the opening game of the 2006 World Cup. Being Scottish you might think that the tournament holds little interest for me, but you’d be wrong. You see, for as long as England are in the tournament, there’s always a team to follow…

I think I’ve just figured out the anti-England subtext in that last sentence :).

I’d just like to say... C'mon England!

Finally, I’m glad I’m not the only one excited for the World Cup. I love soccer, I’ve played it for 8 years now and I attended one World Cup game when it was held in the USA.

Heh. Trinidad & Tobago for the early stages, I take it?

To be fair, as an English person who lives in Scotland, I’ve been stunned at the number of pubs hanging up England flags along with the other nations' (this being Glasgow, it’s probably a sectarian thing, though.)

That’s a pretty clever last sentence - took me about 20 attempts to get your potential meaning. That said, now that it’s been pointed out you can hold your hands up innocently :)
