Al over?

Alan ShearerIt looks like we might have seen the last of Alan Shearer on the football pitch. After scoring a penalty against his local enemies, Sunderland, Shearer took a knock on the knee which might see him miss out on the last few remaining games of his last season before retirement.

If that is the case, then it’s about time a lot of people paid their dues to probably the best centre-forward in recent times. He has his faults — in recent years he’s relied on the physical side of his game too much, he may not be the most enigmatic of characters and he has perhaps the most uninspiring goal celebration — but he’s been one hell of a footballer.

Sir Alan, you’re an inspiration. A centre-forward with class, a talisman on the pitch and an example off it.

I quite like his 'arm-aloft' celebration though–it’s got to beat Robbie "oh god I have to do this stupid bow and arrow thing again" Keane...

I forgot about Robbie Keane – his is surely the worst goal celebration ever!

One of the finest centre forwards to grace the Premiership, his guile and shapness in front of goal is unlikely to be seen for some time. Here’s to his eternal commitment to his home town club and breaking Milburns record. I am humbled in his greatness.
