@media 2006
Weblogs are a-buzzin' over the announcement of @media 2006.
I went to last years event (here’s the proof) and thoroughly enjoyed it. This year it appears to be quite a bit bigger with loads more presentations and speakers (featuring, amongst others, Eric Meyer, Dan Cederholm, Dave Shea, Jon Hicks, Simon Willison and Stuart Langridge). The event is still in London in the middle of June (15th and 16th), though they’ve moved to a bigger venue.
I’m not sure whether or not I’ll be going. The price is still a bit steep in my opinion – £395. I don’t want to appear tight (being Scottish, I know this is going to be difficult), but the Carson Web Apps Summit next month is priced at £75. I know it’s a smaller event but there is still a stellar cast of speakers (Joshua Schacter, Eric Costello, David Heinemeier Hansson). Why is @media2006 double the price?

Hi, I think you’re asking the wrong question. I’d ask why the Carson Summit is so cheap! The majority of conferences or courses work out at around £300 a day. On that basis, @media is a bargain.
Yeah, you’re probably right Ian. Carson does seem to be quite cheap. I wonder how it can be offered so cheap. Are the speakers all doing it for free? Is Bill Gates bankrolling it?
Well I can’t see what the catch would be with the Carson Summit, aside from being bombarded with advertising from its sponsors. The speaker list has a independent feel to it, but really its dominated by Yahoo (primarily), Google and Adobe. So maybe you can expect to go home with bags full of crap? :)
I feel I should take my words back, this from Tom Coates, one of the speakers:
"It’s the first instance of an event organised by non conference people from the community for other people in the community. I imagine they’re more interested in getting people to come in the first order than making a lot of money out of it."

If it makes any difference, I’ll be there this year. Yeah, that’s right, ME!

Remember your £50 discount for being there at the begining. That’s £345 to the few of us who braved the capital last year.
Maybe I’m just a sucker but definately going along again. As for the price - I’m not sure. When you tot it all up it’s not that bad. Carson is however pretty good too - though a 500 capacity venue is going to be mighty big. @media had more of a lecture hall feel last year (including drunk people falling asleep).
