My malfunctioning keyboard

I’ve just had the most frustrating evening with my Powerbook. For some unfathomable reason, the space, backspace, tab and arrow keys decided to stop working. As you can imagine, the malfunction of these keys pretty much makes the computer unusable (I couldn’t even Google for a solution — searching for ‘brokenspacebarpowerbook’ doesn’t return anything of any use…).

Frustration gradually crept in, as an evening I had planned spending catching up on some projects descended into a farce. A couple of hours was spent clutching at straws — countless reboots, cleaning the keyboard, powering down for several minutes, zapping the PRAM (whatever that does?!), booting into single user mode — all to no avail.

Before admitting defeat, I decided on one last surf of the web before bed, so I typed in a URL. However I mistyped it, and, by instinct more than anything, backspaced a few characters — only to find that it worked! I tried the other problem keys immediately and they decided to start working again. WTF!!!

I’ve no idea what happened tonight, but whatever you do, don’t take the space bar for granted!

just select a space with the mouse then cmd+c and cmd+v it if it happens again :)

True, though it wouldn’t have taken long before I’d have thrown the laptop out the window!

Well if you want to get rid of your Powerbook I am sure we can come to some arrangement on price.

It is not worth keeping a dodgy laptop. ;-)
