Thoughts on @media 2005

I got back from London at the weekend, having been down in the big smoke for the @media 2005 web standards and accessibility event. It was great to meet and listen to some of the most prominent members of the web design community.

Special mention has to be given to Douglas Bowman, Jeremy Keith and Robin Christopherson for their excellent presentations. If you weren’t there, the @media site has links to some of the speakers presentations (though they may not make a whole lot of sense taken out of context).

My only disappointments were the absence of Jeffrey Zeldman during the second day (I think he would have been excellent as a member of the panel at the end of the event), and the presentations by Andy Budd and Patrick Griffiths (they were simply too basic — the vast majority of the audience were well versed in CSS).

It’s not been confirmed but I’ll be one of the first signing up should the event be repeated next year.

Oh yeah, and there was no internet at the venue :-(

Its not been ‘confirmed’ but Patrick Griffiths is already (along with everyone else who spoke as far as I can tell) taking about what to speak about next year http://www.htmldog.com .

Dont be suprised to find maybe 3 days and 2 tracks. Nothing like good friendly pub conversations! Shame you couldn’t still around in the evenings but was good to meet you.

No I’ll be going, see if we can take a few more people down next year?

Yeah, I would’ve liked to have stuck around in the evenings - maybe next year I’ll drag my Grandad along with me ;-)

More thoughts on the event have been collated in this blog post by Faruk Ates :

Only one of which I have seen includes me thank god, and only in the background - I somehow think someone else if the star of this pic!

Whoa - that’s a scary picture of Molly Holzschlag! Looks like the evening events were quite lively ;-)

Sorry you found my presentation too basic. I think Patrick expected a slightly more entry level audience when he asked me to do a talk on making the jump to tableless design. Next year I’m looking forward to upping the ante
