Another re-design!

The more astute readers of this blog may have noticed that there is a new design in place. Before I say any more I have to get my disclaimer in — I’m still ironing out various bugs and validation issues, so please bear with me if things look a little odd in your particular setup.

As opposed to serving up a new stylesheet, which the last few updates have been, I’ve re-designed the IA of the website (in particular the main weblog and photos page). I was curious to attempt to change the standard article-listing-home-page of weblogs. I guess time will tell to discover how successful I’ve been, but please let me know of your thoughts and feedback.

Cheers!

Looking great, Phil. I’m a bit sad that you beat me to redesigning and used similar colours–now I’m going to look like a jerk! Oh well. Keep up the good work!

Very nice re-design! Nice colors and a very nice way to organize the content. I am probably going to steal something hehe :]

I like it! I personally wouldn’t mind if the background was slightly brighter, but nothing major.

Whoa. For a moment I hought I’d gone to a completely different site by accident. Looking good Phil!

Yeah, it’s a big jump from all of the previous designs. Very nice. :-)

>>I personally wouldnít mind if the background was slightly brighter

Do you mean the dark gray page background? I spent quite a bit of time deciding on the background. I originally had a gradient running the length of the page, but it looked a bit naff. In the end I lazily used the same tiled gif that Garrett has on http://www.maniacalrage.net (with permission of course).

Later today I’m hoping to upload the new templates for the Photo Albums and (now defunct) Mac OS X areas done.

One thing you may notice missing from older posts is the Google Ads – I haven’t really figured out how to incorporate them without spoiling the design. For the pennies revenue they provide I might not even bother at all.

...it’s very cool but in truth I miss the lovely sunny piccie of Gateshead. Any chance you could add some palm trees, maybe a sunkissed beach? ...don’t listen to me - my site’s got a black eye and broken ribs...
