iPod

Less than a day since it’s release, a lot has already been said about the Apple iPod.

Most of the comments have been negative ones regarding the high retail price of the unit - $400, which to be honest is a lot of wonga for an mp3 player. I own an 80 quid Samsung Yepp player and find it does the job for me. Admittedly it only has 32mb on board but thats enough tracks for the mundane bus journey to work and back.

Apple have introduced the FireWire aspect, which is undoutably a good idea™, though 5Gb is not quite enough when you can buy a lovely VST 20Gb FireWire drive for a hundred bucks less.

Despite all this, I think the design looks ace and builds on the styling of the excellent iBook. In the past Apple have survived by building better designed and considered products than the rest, so lets hope it works with the iPod as well.

As a footnote, before the iPod was revealed, many people thought Apple were going to unveil a PDA of some sort. Now I think that would have been a much more interesting product...
