Black holes are not actually black holes

Top physicist, star of the Simpsons and Radiohead band member, Stephen Hawking has revised his own theory about black holes. Hawking originally defined the behaviour of black holes in 1975, stating :

…once something had fallen into a black hole it was gone and lost forever and the only information that remained was its mass and spin. The ‘Hawking’ radiation seemed to be random and featureless so it appeared that all information about what fell into a black hole was lost.

At a recent conference in Dublin though, Hawking denounced his own theory that black holes could swallow up entire planets and stars. His revised theory claims :

The black hole only appears to form but later opens up and releases information about what fell in, so we can be sure of the past and we can predict the future.

Oh righty. Fair enough Mr. Hawking, I’m not going to argue, but I reckon you owe a huge apology to the scriptwriters of just about every sci-fi movie and episode of Star Trek in the last 20 years.
