Big Noise Music
Oxfam has joined the digital music market this week by launching Big Noise Music. The website offers 300,000 tracks costing between 75p and 99p to download. Befitting Oxfam’s status as a charity, 10p of each download goes towards good causes.
The site is powered by OD2, who’ve also developed the Coca Cola, Virgin, Ministry of Sound and HMV music download services.
Sadly, as with all those sites too, this means you’re shut out unless your using IE on a Windows environment (no thanks…). As I’m unable to get into the site I’m unsure which format they’re supplying the music in, but I’d guess it might be WMA — the same format used by Coke Music.

They are indeed in WMA format. It’s a real shame that they’ve decided to be so restrictive about who and on what platform can use their site, especially as it’s for such a good cause. Ironically, the first song in their list of Ivor Novello nominees is Will Young’s "Leave Right Now" - so that’s exactly what I did.

Aye - I’d be more inclined to purchase music from Oxfam rather than line the pockets of Virgin and Coke - if only they’d chosen a more open platform...

I only wish that Apple would sort their act out and launch the UK version of their US Online Music store. I read that they are having licensing problems with some of the record companies.
I find this strange, as sites like Oxfam and alike, don’t seem to have the same problems.
Being a Windows user (sorry - although, I recently thought about moving over to the darkside by buying a powerbook. - still thinking about it).
I love anything Apple, despite being a Windows user. Their stuff (whether hardware or software) is sexy and gorgeous - does that make me sound sad.
