3G Blogging
Orange is launching a trial of it’s 3G service soon and are promising subscribers the ability to store and view video diaries. In a clever marketing move, by harnessing the 'cool' and zeitgeist aspect of weblogging (apparently..), Orange have labelled this technology as 'weblogging for the next generation'.
Using your 3G phone you’ll be able create and file video diaries on Orange’s network servers, and publicise your efforts for other subscribers to view. They also plan to offer video-chatroom services on their network.
I’m not sure if the video-chatroom idea will happen, given the huge problems text chatrooms face regarding paedophiles and inappropriate content, but I can see video-diaries being a huge hit, though whether they become anything more than a gimmick remains to be seen.

I remember having a ‘wap blog’ around 2/3 years ago, but I ended up giving it up after my nokia ‘timed out’ mid article, losing my post. Video blogging sounds like it has a lot of potential, but I don’t think it’ll replace ‘traditional blogging’, more improve it.
How long before movabletype has a Wap/3G plugin for updates on the move? I’ll have my blog outputting xhtml (basic; for phones) soon, watch this (or well, my) space!

Yeah, WAP was a huge let-down - way too slow and basic to be of any use, but 3G networks should make more of an impact.
I reckon video-blogging will be massive - there’s a huge number of people out there just dying to get themselves noticed in some way - though I don’t think I’ll be one of them ;-)

I suppose it may create a new wave of blogging but I doubt it will be much more than an extra tool to those hard-core bloggers who like to have another angle. Who knows though? Just because I won’t be embracing vid phones doesn’t mean that millions won’t!
