Accessibility Accreditation for UK Web Designers
The British Web Design and Marketing Association (BWDMA) have announced The Accessibility Accreditation Scheme - a new initiative to raise awareness of accessibility issues amongst web design agencies and firms throughout the country :
The scheme will enable the digital industry to identify qualified suppliers in what is a legally essential requirement for all companies on the web.
Based on the European Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI), the group has attracted support of the International Center for Disability Resources on the Internet (ICDRI) and intends to use Section 508 as a basis for it’s accreditation.
On paper this is a great idea. As long as the scheme maintains and supports the standards already outlined by the W3C, anything to wisen up consumers and developers is a welcome move in my book.
