A List Apart Redux
A List Apart returned last night, complete with a spangly new re-design and some new articles by Doug Bowman, Dan Benjamin and Joe Clark.
The content is as great as ever, though I’m slightly unsure of the new design. It looks a bit too much like a TypePad weblog to me.
Maybe I got used to the old version too much. I also have a slightly irrational dislike of the Trebuchet font which doesn’t help...

Like Phil, I still prefer Verdana to Trebuchet, but if there’s one lasting impression I get from the new design, it’s that it feels way too tight. It’s like someone’s put a g-clamp on my head. Not enough whitespace and the abundance of bold, red links is a little overpowering, taking over the rest of the design.

Or Lucida Grande / Lucida Sans Unicode as appears to be the case (judging by your stylesheet!), but I’ve not got them.
Like Mal mentioned, it’s a wee bit too narrow for my liking. Though I can see why they’ve done this (I assume to preserve around 10 words per line?). I think the headings font-size and letter-spacing is also a bit too big.
As far Trebuchet, it’s purely subjective, but I prefer Lucida.
Overall I don’t think there is anything seriously wrong with the website - just a few things which I might have done differently - but each to their own!

I’m surprised you don’t rate the design Phil. When I first saw it, I actually thought you’d had something to do with it(!), especially with the use of grey and red in the links (and the hover states) in at the top. What’s more, I think the overall layout has a certain antipixel feel to it rather than being very typepad-like.
