Textual Healing

Dean Allen’s article, Reading Design, for alistapart is invaluable. Schooled in industrial design, I have no formal training in the use of typography, so articles of this nature are excellent guides for web designers like myself. A big part of industrial design training is based around the notion that user-centred design is paramount, and the aesthetic follows, or as it is more succintly put - form follows function (unless of course you are Philippe Starck...), and so this follows into websites I now build. This is a pretty good start, but the problem occurs when the more subtle principles in the use of typography are overlooked due to my lack of knowledge, so it takes articles such as Allen’s to embed that theory into designers like myself.

p.s. apologies for the title of this entry.
