BBC in 'Video games are not evil' shocker
It’s not often video games get a fair write-up in the press. If they’re not being linked to the latest school yard shooting or joy-riding episode, some survey comes out claiming that video games are the spawn of Satan himself.
However, the BBC reports that a pair of US scientists have found that gamers "have much better visual skills than most of the population" and are "particularly good at spotting details in busy, confusing scenes and could cope with more distractions than average."
Excellent. Good news. However, they almost manage to ruin the whole thing at the end, "Although video game playing may seem to be rather mindless, it is capable of radically altering visual attentional processing."
Ah well...
