Ronaldo sweeps the board

Within the last couple of days, the buck-toothed Brazilian wonder, Ronaldo, has been voted both European and World Footballer of the Year.

I assume that this mainly due to his performances at this summer’s World Cup in Japan, as he’s only played a handful of games for Inter Milan and Real Madrid this year (and scored fewer goals). Oh, and perhaps it’s because the gongs were awarded in Madrid.

Although there is no denying the man’s talent, surely there were players in the world who have contributed more (and for longer) this year? Vieira, Henry, Larsson, Raul perhaps...

Totally agree. It was just another lazy decision, imho.

I think he was the only contender. Viera, Henry and Larsson have been excellent in their respective home leagues but have not excelled on a world stage.

Ronaldo was nothing short of sensational in the world cup and that alone justifies the award.

The award is titled European and World Footballer of the Year, and Ronaldo was only really great for 4 weeks in the summer. Before and after the World Cup, he’s done very little (apart from upset half of Milan).

My vote would have gone to Kahn, successful both domestically and internationally throughout last year.

With ronaldo being Brazilian, one assumes the award for European Footballer of the Year would apply to neither his World Cup performance, nor his nationality. All that would leave is league games, and he’s far from deserving of that award if that is the case.

He should lose the award simply because of that haircut though - what was he thinking?

he’s great, is the most modest out of all the players mentioned above. deserves all the awards he gets, he’s been thru one hell of a time.
