Mr. Shearer
There wasn’t much on when Shola Ameobi knocked down Laurent Robert’s hopeful punt forward, but being 1-0 down with only ten minutes to go, our hero figured that all else had failed, all subtle flicks and carefully positioned headers had sailed past the post or into the arms of the keeper, so the time for brute force had arrived.
As the ball dropped down invitingly on his favoured right foot, our hero’s boot-laces connected with the sweet spot of the ball, and in half a second it had covered the 25 yards to the back of the net.
Watching it on telly you had a feeling that had the net not been there we’d still be waiting for it come down to earth (most likely with a thin coating of snow on it).
Whoever had the audacity to claim that Alan Shearer was no longer a top class centre-forward?

Excellent blog to go with an excellent goal. I was at the other end of the ground when it went in, but the THUMP when he connected was tremendous. :)

I was listening to the commentary on Metro and the two guys commentating went absolutely nuts when it went it in. You can’t beat biased local radio!
Shame he won’t be around for some of the Champions League games...

oh dear. one good goal and the geordie nation get carried away with themselves once again. Sherarer is past it and nothing without Bellamy alongside him. What a shame they will be missing from the champions league due to their old school football ways! ha, ha, ha!!
