In the Gods

Kathryn D. Sullivan, a NASA Astronaut, has published a fascinating page on the NASA website featuring some incredible photography taken from the Space Shuttle. Complete with descriptive captions, the slides provide views of Earth’s most impressive geological features.

Each picture is fascinating, but among my favourites is the shot of Manicouagan Impact Crater in Quebec, Canada. The shot shows in great detail a crater 40 miles wide, caused more than 200 million years ago by an asteroid impact.
