Spam Spam Spam
Have you noticed a huge increase in the amount of spam email these days? The Register reckons that as much of 50% of email is unsolicited. As well as being a nuisance, research has shown that it cost businesses big money in terms of lost productivity and bandwidth each time a big html spam email comes through.
The bad news is that it’s really easy and cheap to get hold of CD’s with millions of email addresses and start spamming, and as yet, there is no strict legislation to deter people. The vast majority will immediately delete spam, but a spamming operation needs only less than 1% of recipients to respond to become profitable, so low are the margins.
Enrique Salem, CEO of BrightMail, who has been analyzing the incredible growth in spam, comments, "If this trend continues unchecked, it’s going to make email unusable."
