Binge Gaming

A couple of gaming-related pieces found today...

A 27 year old man has died after 32 hours non-stop gaming in a Taiwanese Internet Cafe. Psychologist Peter Watson explained that playing games over prolonged periods without sleep places the body under considerable stress.

"Depending on the game, the brain is receiving [the impression] that it is constantly under attack. We would not expect hardened soldiers to cope with a 32-hour fire fight, and yet some people think they can play these games constantly for long periods of time."

Alex Nikitin, a 17 year old gamer from London has insured his fingers for £375,000.

His reasoning - "Online games like Quake and Starcraft are being played faster than ever before, thanks to broadband internet access, powerful PCs and hours of dedicated practice. That’s great news for competitive gamers like myself, but also increases the chances of stress and injury to my fingers and they are the most essential tools of the trade."
