Berti, Berti, give us a wave!

After the near catastrophic failure in the Faroes a few weeks ago, a few observers are hinting at the start of a revival under the rein of Berti Vogts. The signs are promising, 5 goals in two games (and 3 of those were scored by strikers!) and two wins (okay, Iceland and Canada are not really footballing super-powers, but you can only beat what’s in front of you). Let’s hope it carries through to the game against Portugal next month.

To be fair to Berti, when you look at who Scotland lost to at the start of his reign, you wouldn’t really have expected to get much out of those games (albeit in hindsight for South Korea). It was only really the game against the Faroes that was a disappointment.

The Faroes was definitely a very low point, though people were really disappointed at the obvious lack of effort and capitulation against the French, Danes and South Koreans etc.

A lot of the time we expect to get beat, but we always thought we could rely on effort and tenacity to get us a goalless draw or a narrow win - against those teams we just got played off the park.
