Saltwell Towers

Saltwell Park in Gateshead is enjoying a new lease of life after the Heritage Lottery Fund provided £10m to aid it’s restoration. The first signs of restoration have been the transformation of Saltwell Towers, in the heart of the park. Orginally built in 1862 for William Wailes, a stained-glass artist, the fairytale mansion fell into dereliction in the 70’s, but is now re-born as the park’s visitor centre and art gallery.
