Santa's Grotto, Gateshead

I can understand why some people add Christmas decorations to their house during the festive period. Kids love it after all, but I think this is going a wee bit too far...

See also Southward Close, Seaton Sluice. I used to live on an adjoining street, but since I left, the neighbourhood’s gone right downhill. ;) The entire street puts on a display like that house each year. It’s for charity, apparently, but I’m not sure that’s a good enough excuse...
My God! That’s... That’s... A lot of lights!

Oh you`re abunch of moany so and so`s!!!!!!
It brightens the place up a bit and kids love it so why not?
My neighbour is a misery and doesn`t like my lights so goes away each christmas, so if you don`t like it quite simply don`t look!

We have a few houses like that round our way (Bath - we’re in the ‘rough bit’: a council estate). Even our next-door neighbours have gone light-crazy. Apparently there’s a sort of unofficial competition to see who can have the most garish display...
We’ll be taking the subtle approach ;)
