iMac G5

iMac G5Apple have released the much anticipated iMac G5. The widely spread rumours of a combined computer and monitor turned out to be true — and it looks stunning.

The logic board, optical drive, hard drive and speakers are all housed inside the LCD display, creating an extremely elegant and sleek form.

The specs and pricing are pretty impressive too.

I think these are going to sell well. Apple seem to have made its design as iPod-like as possible (Phil Schiller introduced it with a shot of it in profile next to a docked iPod); so a key market will be those Windows using iPod users who want something a little more stylish to go with their player.

Totally agree Matt. It makes perfect sense to try and piggyback on the success of the iPod.

The pricing is also key at this level and I think they’ve done very well to set the prices lower than the previous iMac. Just over £1000 for a 17-inch with SuperDrive is top value.

Once again Apple have designed a real corker. It looks sexy.

If Apple were to design a car, I wonder what it would look like?

"If Apple were to design a car, I wonder what it would look like?"

Well... there’s hypothetical question if I ever heard one ;-)

I guess it would be like a Honda S2000 – excellent design, build quality and performance, but completely out-sold by the (much inferior) BMW Z4...

It would be like an iPod, with wheels.... and slightly bigger.
