Swiss Army iPod
Apple are currently marketing some clever add-ons for the iPod.
Belkin have produced a clever media reader, called the er.. Belkin Media Reader. The device allows you to transfer files from memory cards to your iPod. At £90 it’s priced a bit steep, but if you’re out and about taking lots of high res digital snaps, you’d easily spend more on a couple of 256MB memory cards.
Other interesting add-ons include the Belkin Voice Recorder and the Belkin FireWire Battery. I also have it on good word that Griffin Technology’s iFM will be shipping at the end of the month.
It’s a bummer that the iTrip is not available in the UK, but I’m looking forward to having a good quality FM radio with the iPod.

I did read some reviews of different FM transmitters, and the iTrip didn’t fare too well. Nicely designed and built, but below-par performance I think was the general consensus.

I got an i-trip from the US and have used it in the UK without any problems. I went right down near the bottom of the FM scale well away from most of the commercial channels and its fine. No high pitched whine, no wires no messing, well worth the price.

Personally, I found the iTrip rather overrated. I went to the effort of importing one from the US, but could never get a good reception whatever channel I used - there was always a high pitched whine in the background... Maybe in the UK we have too many stations, too close together. Anyway, I’ve now got a single dock connector in my car which provides power to the iPod and sends an audio line out to my car stereo - a much better solution...
