The future of instant messaging?

Deeper into this article, below the reported death of OS 9, there is a small section of text devoted to a new application called iChat. It is a chat client, that while based on AOL’s instant messaging technology, does not require an AOL subscription. The file sharing ability looks promising and could vastly speed up collabrative projects. More about it can be found here and here.

Powazek has an interesting query on the design of the new iApps. Some, such as Sherlock and Address Book, have a distinctly metallic QuickTime-ish look, whereas other apps, such as Mail, use the ‘sweetdrop’ Aqua look. Not sure if this difference is intentional or not....
