Delicious Library

Delicious Library iconDelicious Library is now available. The application catalogues your media (DVDs, CDs, books, Video games etc) by scanning it’s barcode with an iSight webcam, then retrieves a mass of information on your items through the internet (from Amazon and IMDB).

I’ve yet to check it out properly but it looks great (fake wood aside) and promises to be a very useful piece of software.

Comments

I keep seeing comments about how useful this application will be. Could someone explain what makes it so useful? So you load it up with all your CDs and DVDs. Now what? You can look at their pretty covers on your computer. It definitely might be useful if you were lending your stuff to others all the time but if you don’t then I don’t see the point. Please enlighten me :-)

phil, it’s excellent. and the iSight scanning worked perfectly for me. however, i still am unable to purchase the software via the built-in ecommerce engine. and after 2 days and several emails, no response from their sales staff. how about some delicious support?

I guess it depends on the size of your collection. If you have a big collection it’ll prove very useful. You can view similar items available on Amazon and get prices for selling your items as second hand goods. Also useful to have a record on your iPod when you’re out at the shops. If you’ve a smallish collection of stuff then it’s probably not of much interest.

iSight scanning didn’t work for me, probably there was not enough light in my room yesterday evening. Apart from that it works great and looks very good.

I run a video rental store, and DL would prove VERY useful IF it had a "rental" side in addition to it’s "lending" side. I am using an old VHS-C camcorder with my DAC-100 Firewire converter as the barcode scanner, and it has found all of my DVDs, VHSs and even japanese mangas very well.

I have already contacted the developers about a Rental feature, but as of yet have not heard back from them.
