Doom 3 for Mac

Aeons behind the mainstream release on PC, Aspyr Media has announced that Doom 3 will be released on the Mac in early 2005. As expected, system requirements are high-end — a G5 processor, 512 Mb RAM and nVidia GeForce 3 or better. This rules out all the current Apple laptops, but should be peachy on a iMac G5 (with some extra RAM).

I disagree. The current line of G5 iMacs sport a Geforce FX 5200 graphics chipset which will be more than hard pressed to run something like Doom 3, particularly on the OS X platform. It’s a weak graphics chipset on the PC side of things, to say the least, and even more so on the Mac side of things, not to mention the fact that these FX 5200s in questions have only 64mb dedicated video memory... that’d be a ridiculous machine on which to even try running Doom 3... you could probably try drawing each frame faster than the 5200 could render them (that’s a tad unfair, but really, the game will be unplayable on a current iMac)
