Tiger Previewed

Steve Jobs has been previewing some of the key features of Tiger at the WWDC in San Francisco. All the new stuff is on the Apple website, but hereís a diluted list :

iChat AV

Updated to include multi-way AV conferencing (with a funky 3D interface).

Safari RSS

An updated version of Safari to allow reading and management of RSS feeds. (I bet the NetNewsWire and Pulp Fiction developers are a little pissed at this).

Dashboard

Open & manage useful widgets such as clocks, calculators and iTunes controls. Plenty of eye-candy around the integration too, with Expose-like controls and impressive Quartz animations for hiding and showing. I bet the Konfabulator boys are well pissed.

Spotlight

Super-fast global search facility. It features full-content indexing which means itíll search through your contacts, iCal diaries, email, PDFís etc. as well as file names. Itís easily accessible through the Finder, making it a rival to ëspace-bar launchersí such as QuickSilver and LaunchBar.

Automator

Create and deploy actions to perform common routines. Basically, a visual tool to create complex Applescripts. Judging by the Keynote video, Apple looks to have built a lovely intuitive interface around it too.

Xcode 2.0

Updated version of Appleís IDE (with visual modelling and improved Java support).

VoiceOver

The much heralded Spoken Interface. A system-wide feature which makes Tiger the most accessible OS available.

Impressive stuff, but I may save the cash and put it towards one of those gargantuan 30-inch Studio DisplaysÖ
