Stattoo
Panic have released a little utility application that displays a variety of information on your desktop. Stattoo is a framework that loads little mini-apps, called capsules. The application comes with a default set — clock, date, weather, battery level, iCal reminders, disk usage, iTunes (currently playing tracks), software listings (from versiontracker.com) and email (from Mail).
I’m not sure, but I guess the plan is to encourage people to build their own capsules, in a similar way that Konfabulator has a large number of third party widgets.

Pfft.
I know Steve’s saying it doesn’t compete with Konfabulator, but it does... poorly.
I love Panic, but Stattoo looks like a turkey.
To be honest, it’s not my cup of tea. It’s not badly implemented, it’s just a bit gimmicky. There are lots of people who use large screens and like to have all kinds of widgets and capsules displaying just about everything they’d ever need on their Mac, but it ain’t for me I’m afraid...

Probably the real "killer feature" for me is that Stattoo is designed to be unobtrusive. I work (for various annoying reasons) on an old iBook at 800x600. Stattoo lets me get rid of everything that takes up screen real estate without adding a bunch of distracting crap to the screen in its place - a feature the overly-gimmicky Konfabulator is sorely lacking.
Stattoo is the minimalist answer to Konfabulator’s case-modding brag ;)

As far as I can tell, I don’t think they really aimed for people building their own capsules. Its not considered an alternative to Konfabulator. Its a "This is all it will do, and nothing more" kind of app. Or at least that’s what it sounds like: http://stevenf.com/mt/archives/000574.php
