A Doubting Thomas

Mac user and useability critic Matthew Thomas has only just made the switch from OS 9 to OS X and in his post My First 48 Hours Enduring Mac OS X, lists 48 niggling flaws and inconsistencies he has spotted while getting to grips with the OS for the first time.

He makes a lot of good points. I won’t go into detail on my differing opinions, however, I would like to point out that Cmd-Option-D hides and shows the dock. I just discovered this the other day. It may just be a workaround for the problem he discussed, but it’s there.

Good observations, though I thought the much-maligned Dock got off quite lightly. Also, bearing in mind the improvements of Panther, it’d be interesting to see how many points he would’ve come up with had he been using 10.0 or 10.1.

Some of it is just plain whining from someone who clearly wanted to keep using OS9. Change isn’t always a bad thing.
