Macworld Expo Announcements
A fair number of new Apple products were announced at the Macworld Expo last night. As has been widely rumoured throughout the holiday season, Apple launched a slimmed down version of the iPod, called the iPod mini.
The rumours were spot on about the range of colours (mmm, lime green), smaller capacity (4 Gb), smaller casing (a mere 3.6" x 2" ó about fag packet size), though they were wrong about the use of Smart Media (the iPod mini uses a hard disk), and way off abut the price. This is the big surprise to me. The announced price is $249 ó a fair bit more than the rumoured price of $100.
Other announcements ó
- a new 15 Gb iPod ó replacing the 10 Gb model at $299 (UK)
- some new in-ear headphones (designed for the iPod)
- Xserve G5
- Final Cut Express 2
- iLife 04 ó with a new music making app called GarageBand
- *cough* Microsoft Office 2004
- some crazy bloke has spent $29,500 through the iTunes Music Store (?!)
