Konfabulator
Konfabulator is a lovely little program which lets you run 'widgets' on your desktop. Widgets can come in the form of calendars, stock quote displays, clocks, weather reports etc.
The widgets are authored in Javascript and are tightly integrated with the OSX Quartz rendering engine to produce a very polished looking app.
The creators have also made the development transparent allowing you to create your own 'widgets' (if you know Javascript) with sample code and interface templates.

Hmm, their site seems really slow to access. They’re either overwhelmed with requests or serve their site from a hamster-powered Newton :-)

Looks like they’ve mirrored the site - seems to access okay now.
Incidentally, Mr. Gruber from Daring Fireball has an excellent <a href="http://daringfireball.net/2003/02/konfabulous.html">review </a> of Konfabulator.

Like the site, keep it up. I would get a little more bandwidth though.
