iCommune Hits a Stumbling Block

Everyone’s favorite iTunes plug-in has encountered some trouble. iCommune.net, the official site rub by James G. Speth, tells of a certain "Notice of Breach and Termination of License" letter, and mentions that iCommune will be unavailable, "for the time being".

Looks like Apple’s lawyers are flexing their muscles on this one. I wonder if they’d be objecting as strongly if Rendezvous support was already in place?

Some interesting opinions on Slashdot <a href="http://apple.slashdot.org/apple/03/01/16/1555250.shtml?tid=107" title="Apple smacks down iCommune">here</a> and <a href="http://apple.slashdot.org/apple/03/01/09/1620237.shtml?tid=107" title="iCommune for iTunes Shares Over Network">here</a>.

"I wonder if they’d be objecting as strongly if Rendezvous support was already in place?" - I’m inclined to agree, and that makes me wonder if there is something larger going on here.

Like Apple trying to squash a product that might conflict with future version of one of it’s own.

Imagine iTunes with Rendezvous support built-in . . .
